Useful NickServ Commands

Flying Monkey IRC uses NickServ. This is a tool to allow you to register your nickname with us so that nobody else can use it. You can feed it commands via your chosen IRC Client. The following commands are a useful reference to get you started.

/msg nickserv register [password] [email]
Registers your nickname with us and sets your initial password and email address.

/msg nickserv identify [password]
Once you’ve registered, this command identifies you to NickServ. You will need to use this every time you connect once you have registered your nickname. Most IRC clients let you run a series of commands when you connect to our IRC network, it is very common to include this command there so this happens automatically when you login.

/msg nickserv resetpass [nickname] [email]
If you’ve forgotten your password, this command will send out an email with instructions on how to reset it. Note that some email providers like Hotmail and GMail use very aggressive spam filters, and our hosting provider often ends up on their blocklists. For this reason, we normally recommend using a well-managed password manager to reduce the chance you will need to use this.
